Do you know the difference between cacao and cocoa?

Both come from the same plant but the key difference is that cocoa is roasted which destroys a large amount of its health benefits. Often sugar and other flavourings are then added in products too.

Cacao powder is less processed and is classed as a superfood due to its health properties.

Cacao is one of the richest sources of polyphenols which are naturally occurring antioxidants and linked with many health benefits such as being anti-inflammatory, supporting gut diversity, better blood flow, improving brain function and lowering blood pressure.

This warming drink makes a great afternoon drink for the winter months when you fancy something chocolatey in the afternoon. The cinnamon and ginger flavour makes it extra warming too.

Spicy hot chocolate recipe

Ingredients

1 heaped tsp raw cacao

1/2 - 1 tsp honey

1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

1/2 tsp ground ginger

1 cup milk of choice (I enjoy oat or cashew milk)

Recipe

Put all of the ingredients into a mug or saucepan and heat up slowly for a few minutes (be careful not to boil the milk)

Alternatively to make it feel extra creamy I often use the milk frother on my coffee machine.

Enjoy! Michelle x
